Help fund raise with the swipe of a card! Each time you shop at Kroger, you can earn Central Ohio Council money, through their Community Rewards program.

• Do you already have a Kroger Plus Card? Log-in if you’ve done this on their website before (remember to do this once a year!), or Enroll to create an online account using your existing card information.
• Don’t have a Kroger Plus Card? It is free to sign-up at any Kroger location. The benefits to having a card are the savings you get each time that you shop. You can even earn “fuel points.”

–Once you are enrolled online, go to “My Account.”
–Under “Account Settings,” scroll down and click “Community Rewards”
–Enter “83511″ for our council’s code. Click next to our name. Scroll down and click “Save”.

Cell Phone and Printer Cartridge Recycling

What do you do with that old cell phone once you have upgraded?  What about all the printer cartridges you go through at work or home?  Consider donating them to Camp Fire USA Central Ohio Council!  We are partnering with SmartRecycle.com to offer cell phone and printer cartridge recycling.  We will receive a portion of the profits from qualifying cell phone and printer cartridge donations.  Call (614.481.8227) or email (lisa@centralohiocampfire.org) Lisa Graham for more information.

Volunteer for Warrior Dash in June

We are looking for 25 volunteers to help with the Warrior Dash Run inLogan,OHon Saturday June 2, 2012.  This volunteer event can help raise $1,000 for Camp Fire USA Central Ohio Council.  As a volunteer you will also get the following perks:

Mark your calendar!

The annual Spring Skills Weekend at Camp Wyandot is May 5-6 2012. Participants — mostly Camp Fire club members and their leaders and families — will enjoy a day of nature study and outdoor living skills. We will do lots of hiking and canoeing. We will also be having a Grand Council Fire Saturday to celebrate what you have accomplished in your clubs this school year.

Each group needs to bring a sack lunch or their own food supplies to cook Saturday lunch over an open fire at one of the many fire rings around camp.  If you will need assistance cooking over a fire, please let Lisa know and we will be sure to have a trainer available during lunch to help you with basic fire building and outdoor cooking.

It is very affordable, and you receive two days and one night of activities, snacks, and meals for just $20 per person. Siblings and parents can also attend, but of course they need to register and pay also. It is $25 for non- Camp Fire members. You can also choose to attend Saturday and participate in the activities but not stay overnight for $12.

As you may know, our aging sewage waste system is being replaced. The new system will be in complete compliance with EPA regulations.  This is a costly endeavor and we have had to raise close to $80,000 to cover the cost.  We are greatly appreciative of those who have donated so far: $20,000 from Harriett ‘Betsy’ Fletcher Bequest, $10,100 from theCampFiresupporters who donated during the Big Give Campaign of the Columbus Foundation, $7,000 from the Northwest Kiwanis Club, $5,000 from the Harry C. Moores Foundation, and $1,200 the Green Trees Camp Fire Club.  However, the largest donation came from Susan Buttermore, a long-time alumnus and volunteer, of $30,000.  We are extremely thankful to Susan for coming through with her donation which made it possible for us to move forward with this important upgrade at camp.

CampWyandot, in beautiful Hocking Hills, has reunited children and nature for over 80 years. Campers enjoy a variety of outdoor activities while learning teamwork fostered by small group living.  Activities include swimming, boating, hiking, sports and games, crafts, fishing, archery, and camping skills. Counselors undergo extensive background screening and training.  Your child will gain skills, independence, and memories they will treasure for years.

Camp Otonwe is designed to open a child’s senses to the outdoors.  Campers enjoy  outdoor activities while learning cooperation and teamwork.  Activities may include swimming,field trips, hiking, sports and games, crafts, fishing, archery and camping skills. Counselors undergo extensive background screening and training for a quality day camp experience at Highbanks Metro Park.

Camp Fire receives grant from the Columbus Foundation to offer Camperships!

We are excited again this year to receive over $4,300 from the Columbus Foundation to offer scholarships for those who need a bit of financial assistance to attend camp this summer.   The deadline is approaching quickly so if you are interested in applying for a scholarship, please do so today!  The links to the applications are below:
