What Is Camp Like
Mission
Camp Otonwe provides a wonderful opportunity for children going into grades 1 – 9 to experience the joy of nature in a fun and safe environment. We focus on building outdoor living skills and developing a greater sense of self reliance. Campers will master new skills, try new things, and develop deep friendships. We value diversity, open-heartedness, and environmental sustainability and strive to instill these values in our campers.
Program runs from 8:30 to 4:00
Camp Otonwe uses the unit, AKA small group, model which involves similarly aged campers and their adult counselors, working together to plan their upcoming week as a family. Activities may include fishing, creeking, arts and crafts, nature hikes, cook – outs and much more. Of course the highlight of the summer for our campers are the swim/field trip days where campers get to enjoy trips off site to a pool or other locations. Campers also love the unique guests and special programs, which occur once a week.
Children’s Favorite memory from Day Camp (from our 2011 camper evaluations):
Going creeking/going to the cave and digging for rocks.
Catching a fish!
Hanging out with newly made friends.
She had so much to tell us but I believe she enjoyed the swimming and the zoo trip a lot.
